clueless

I suppose it feels cliche to say how much God loves you.

God’s love can feel remote, causing him to appear distant or disinterested. He’s the most engaging thing going. He’s so relational, it can be exhausing to our limited human capacity.

Although he’s both masculine & feminine, we can get hung up on the He-ness of him, and superimpose what we know of Father onto him. Like pin the tail on the donkey, we keep pinning the False onto him, and it blocks our view of what’s True. If your father prefered working on his car to relating to you, that can create a sliver of a false view of father. Multiply that times your entire life and you might not have a clue how crazy God is about you.

How Crazy?

Well, he never sleeps. So he thinks about you ALL THE TIME.

When you wake-up in the middle of the night, he’s thinking about you.

When you wake-up in the morning, he’s thinking about you.

He has a giant list of things he wants to ask you and things he wants to tell you.

He looks forward to the next time you’ll spend time with him.

He’s hoping it’s today.

He checks his phone every five minutes to see if you’ve texted.

He’s not greedy or selfish in his love, although he receives great joy from the delight he feels when he’s with you.

It doesn’t matter what you do or where you go or how you feel — he just wants to go, too.

He doesn’t mind it if all you do is talk about yourself the entire time. He just looks at you and smiles.

Sometimes he gets distracted by your smile or your voice or your eyes or your teeth, but he’s still listening.

He does have some good things to share, so sometimes I think he’d like it if we turned our attention to him, but he also knows we’re growing, and we’ll get to that evenutally. He just wants to be with us.

He wants to share the sad and the grand moments in our lives with us.

He’s there for the mundane and the exciting.

He isn’t evaluating or appraising, although he sees us through and through.

He longs to become a part of each moment of your life.

He doesn’t love you to take from you, but to give everything of himself to you.

He always looks at you through love.

He always thinks you’re the greatest.
